The Port of Everett has been thriving on Port Gardner Bay for nearly 90 years. The Port owns and operates three shipping terminals, industrial and commercial properties and a marina which is the largest one of its kind on the west coast with 2,050 slips. Along with being an active seaport, the Port also has a variety of public works and environmental projects as well as plans underway for new townhomes, professional offices and public open space. The Port acts as our festival host, welcoming us to the south marina overlooking the passageway to the San Juan Islands with a stunning view of the Olympic Mountains in the background. Pirates and festival goers alike love to sample what the south marinai’s restaurants have to offer including Meyer’s Café (the official restaurant of the Puget Sound Pirate Festival), Anthony’s, the Woodfire Grill and Lombardi’s.
The folks at Ravenswood Leather have been making us look good for years! High quality and reasonable prices on all manner of clothing and costuming with an emphasis on beautifully designed and well-crafted leather. Do you want to be a pirate? A knight? Look just plain fabulous for any special event? Ravenswood has coats, shirts, pants, skirts, and a collection of accessories to fit all your needs including baldrics, belts, boots, bracers, daggers, swords, and archery supplies. Bodice fittings are especially fun and check out their Web site to see a picture of the new baby.
When we want to sit in the front row eating popcorn and watching Pirates of the Caribbean, we always join our friends at Regal Cinemas for a great time! The Regal Cinema Entertainment Group (including Regal Cinemas, United Artists Theatres and Edwards Theatres) is the largest motion picture exhibitor in the world operating 6386 screens in 539 locations in 40 states and DC. The home offices are in Knoxville, Tennessee, but our friends right here in the Puget Sound love pirates and welcomed our publicity efforts when POTC III opened earlier in the summer.
How can you not love a company that lives in our own backyard and makes popular, affordable games for knights, warriors, heroes and pirates to play? WizKids, Inc. was founded in July 2000 by 25-year industry veteran and award-winning game designer Jordan Weisman. His goal was to develop a game that made it easy to begin playing traditional miniatures games, and he focused his efforts on creating games that were both affordable and playable right out of the box. Most WizKids games are supported with organized play at conventions and registered retail venues worldwide. We’re an official envoy for WizKids this year so come to our festival and play with our experienced game-laying pirates at one of the three games they’ve sent us including Pirates of the South China Seas, Pirates of the Spanish Main or Pirates at Ocean’s Edge. We can’t wait to play!
University Book Store has been serving the needs of the University of Washington since it opened in a cloakroom next to the president’s office in 1900. Although it’s among some 4,000 college bookstores in the U.S., it’s one of the top three in total sales volumes and leads all college bookstores in the sale of books and supplies. UBS is also one of the few that returns patronage funds to the UofW and donates significantly to student scholarships. We just like ‘em because they always bring so many fun piratey books as well as toys, games and other cool stuff for pirates of all ages to purchase and take home to their personal treasure chests.
When weary pirates are ready to rest in style, we stay at the award-winning Inn at Port Gardner which captures the essence of the great northwest. The hotel offers the perfect spot for enjoying the sweeping views of the Port Gardner Bay Marina and the majestic Olympic Mountains. The Inn provides thirty-three spacious guest rooms and suites. Two banquet rooms are available for meetings, retreats and social events. Every guest room and meeting room is equipped with T1 high speed and wireless access. Guests can start each morning with a continental-style breakfast in a basket, delivered to your door each morning or relax and enjoy coffee service and fresh baked cookies in the lobby. The Inn can also make lunch and dinner reservations at one of the many Marina restaurants, located out our back door.
A fine collection of all a pirate’s favorite collectibles whether you’re interested in maritime history or just enjoy what comes from the sea. Take your time browsing barometers, sextants, models, ship’s wheels, glass floats, flags, lighting, art and books. The proprietors happily share the history and back stories of many of the museum quality models and antiques they have to offer. Our pirate crew is especially fond of their cannon!
We may be pirates but we also love horses and history! The Warhorse Challenge Association aims to give every horseperson the opportunity to experience the thrill of testing themselves and their horses in events such as lancing rings, horseback sword techniques, horse archery, and other contests used throughout history to train warhorses and their riders. Whatever your historical interest, from French Knights to nineteenth century British cavalry, from Huns to Confederate Rebel Riders, the WCA offers venues where you and your horse can put on war paint or armor and compete against like-minded equestrians. The Warhorse Challenge Association concentrates on establishing a set of international standards for the conduct of historical warhorse challenges while offering both regional and national venues and awards for such competitions.
